Located in the heart of Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront, this popular spot has been serving everything Belgian since 1994. Think mussels, frites, waffles and bitterballen – locals and visitors alike flock here for their fix. With a postcard view of Table Mountain as a backdrop, it’s not hard to see why! The African Queen bar serves a wide selection of snacks and Belgian beers on tap, while the airy restaurant space offers the likes of their signature moules marinières (locally sourced from Langebaan and subject to availability), served with frites, plus other favourites including prawn-and-clam pasta, piri-piri prawns and tuna, salmon and kingklip. Meat lovers needn’t worry, they’re taken care of with carbonades flamande (beef braised in beer, served with frites), steak au poivre and fillet chateaubriand. If you’re feeling adventurous, try the lapin a la flamande (rabbit simmered in beer served with potato croquettes). There are also a handful of vegetarian, and one vegan option. For dessert, hot apple cake, flambéed crepes, chocolate mousse and, of course, waffles will hit the spot.

Don't leave without trying:
The shrimp croquettes and mussels.
