Perched on the 32nd floor of John Ross House, Roma has been turning tables – literally – since 1972. It was pioneered by Bartholomeo Ribero and the Leopardi brothers, with the latter’s family still managing the restaurant today. One full revolution takes between 60 and 90 minutes, which is just enough time to work through the classic Italian menu. After moreish antipasti (the smoked wildebeest carpaccio is a fun local twist on a classic), move onto handmade pasta, fresh seafood (try the linefish in a creamy crayfish sauce) and a selection of meat and poultry (duckling à l'orange anyone?) done to perfection. For a truly theatrical evening, peruse the specialties menu; the Chateaubriand Bearnaise is flamed tableside for two, while Durban's harbour and skyline drift past the windows. Head one floor up to Roma Skyy, the highest cocktail bar in Durban, for a sundowner or nightcap.

Don't leave without trying:
You just can’t go wrong with that Chateaubriand Bearnaise, a Roma Revolving classic for decades.
