Tortellini D’Oro
A haven of authentic Bologna in Joburg.
Inspired by the rich culinary traditions of Bologna – widely considered Italy’s gastronomic capital – Tortellino d’Oro approaches Italian cooking with a sense of reverence and generosity. The menu is refined but unfussy: delicate handmade pasta (tortellini in particular, of course), deeply flavourful ragùs, and elegant takes on northern Italian staples. Inside, crisp white tablecloths, soft lighting and roses on each table create the atmosphere of a classic European trattoria, making it an easy choice for date nights and celebratory dinners. Adjoining the restaurant is a deli worth lingering in, stocked with imported Italian goods, fresh pasta and tempting pantry finds that extend the experience beyond dinner itself. Booking is recommended.
Don't leave without trying:
The tortellini, of course – handmade, belly button-shaped pasta pockets filled with Parma ham, mortadella, chicken and Parmesan, served with a cream-and-mushroom, Napolitana or butter-and-sage sauce. The melanzane is also tipped to be the best you’ll find anywhere in Gauteng.
