If you’re craving Italian that hits the spot every time, you’ll find it here, in a bright, airy space on a leafy square in Claremont. Co-owners Kurt Henderson and David Haupt and his wife, Emma, have been serving excellent quality, authentic Italian food here since 2008. Regulars return for antipasti including carpaccio Cipriani and cappelletti in brodo (pasta filled with ricotta and Parmesan in a home-made chicken broth), a wide selection of perfectly cooked baked and fresh pastas, as well as secondi that run the gamut from fresh linefish to veal or chicken saltimbocca, tagliata di manzo (grilled and sliced herb-rubbed rib-eye served with roast tomatoes and broccoli) and fegato alla Veneziana (calves’ liver braised with white wine and onions served with pasta or potato purée). For dessert, all the favourites are on offer, including tiramisu, dolce della nonna, panna cotta, chocolate torte with hazelnut gelato, and a flourless orange-and-almond cake topped with mascarpone cream. A fantastic wine selection and friendly, attentive service round out this neighbourhood gem.
