Banana Jam Café
Authentic Caribbean food and artisanal beer in Cape Town’s southern suburbs.
This quirky Caribbean restaurant opened in 1999 in the parking lot of the Kenilworth train station and is still going strong, for very good reason. Since then, it’s moved across the road and expanded from seating 45 guests to 200, testament to its popularity. The owners travel extensively for ideas and inspiration and their attention to detail and refinement of dishes over the years have led to some very exciting menus and specials. The menu is diverse and offers authentic Caribbean flavours and dishes from jerk chicken and real goat curry to jambalaya and jerk BBQ or Carolina pork ribs, as well as some vegan options. Upstairs, you’ll find Afro Caribbean Brewing, their in-house micro-brewery, which serves award-winning craft beer. The legendary Jamaican jerk wings are a crowd favourite but order the Jamaican hot variety at your peril – you have been warned! There’s also an extensive cocktail list (happy hour is every day between 5 and 6pm), many rums to be tasted, and good vibes all round – a must when you’re in Cape Town’s southern suburbs.
Don't leave without trying:
