The overarching feeling at Brioche is one of cosy comfort, both in terms of the welcoming atmosphere and what’s on the menu The latter blends standard café fare with a few creative twists – such as a vanilla-custard pancake or the mosbolletjie burger sarmie – and the signature sandwiches on pillowy-soft brioche buns that keep locals returning. Two other things to note: first, the quality coffee should satisfy all but the most discerning of bigger-city coffee snobs (and there are plenty of novelty flavours to experiment with). Second, this is the place to go if you’ve been hankering for warm, small-town service with a smile. There’s also an adjoining little shop that sells home-made sweet treats and specialty pantry items, so you can take a bit of Brioche home with you.

Don't leave without trying:
The Welsh rarebit – perfectly crusty ciabatta, molten, creamy cheese, excellent mushrooms.
