Clarke’s Bar and Dining Room

This Bree Street stalwart is a favourite for a reason. Its hip diner-style décor, delicious food and relaxed atmosphere are still the reasons fans flock here. Everything is freshly made, down to the ketchup – they ferment their own kefir, smoke their own meat and make their own pastries, among other things, all without any additives. Breakfast is available all day from 8am and includes pastries, “little” and “big” breakfasts, toasts, and larger plates. For lunch, expect salads, sandwiches and burgers, including the famous cheeseburger. At dinner the offering is similar, with the addition of snacks to enjoy with cocktails or your choice of tipple. Several specials are always on offer, including coffee for R30 between 7 and 8am on weekdays, happy hour from 5 to 6pm, and oysters for R22 each from 4pm from Tuesday to Friday. You’ll find the Bree Street Community Hall behind the restaurant, which is available for events. Gather up your friends and head here for a good time.
