Saigon has been going strong at the same location for almost 30 years and is an absolute Cape Town institution. Family meals, date nights, anniversaries, birthday parties – it all works at this Vietnamese eatery, which recently underwent a spiffy renovation. The focus is Vietnamese and Asian food and the menu offers many options – from a host of spring rolls (the crispy duck is a perennial favourite) to dim sum, sushi and, of course, noodle dishes. The kitchen sends out food in a very timeous manner and every plate is brimming with freshness and flavour, and nicely plated, too. The drinks list is both well-priced and well sourced, with a good affordable selection by the glass. Service is warm and attentive, and even on very busy nights, staff will go out of their way to accommodate last-minute arrivals. That said, it can get hopping, so book a table to avoid disappointment.

Don't leave without trying:
