Running a live music venue in South Africa is a risky business but after more than 15 years, The Alma Café in Rosebank is going strong and plays a pivotal role in the community. This is thanks in no small part to the great food that comes out of the kitchen. It’s a warm and welcoming venue, one of those places you can tell from the get-go is family-run, with the owners present and engaged. As for the food, the focus here is on unfussy, heartwarming dishes to fill the belly. You could pop in for breakfast and enjoy an excellent coffee and farmhouse breakfast, or swing by over lunch for the pie of the day with chips and salad, or perhaps a serving of old-school bobotie, made according to a family recipe. Portions are generous and so is the attitude of the staff – it’s one of those spots that can always be counted on for good vibes.
