The Press Club
Sea views and a genuine home-away-from-home feel.
Press Club has found a happy new home at the Salta Sibaya Estate clubhouse, and the move suits it well. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame ocean views from the modern open-plan interior, while a terrace and generous kids' play area make it as easy for families as it is for a lazy solo breakfast. The menu is a love letter to honest, unpretentious cooking: kippers and a hash of sautéed potatoes for breakfast; lunches along the lines of liver-and-bacon on mash or a tikka chicken burger with crispy onions, feta-and-mint raita on a milk bun; regular Durban-style curry nights and a Sunday roast worth planning your weekend around. Owner-run and reliably good, this is the kind of neighbourhood restaurant that becomes a genuine habit.
Don't leave without trying:
The famous Press Club Durban eggs: two eggs served on home-made toast, with a rich butter-bean-and-potato-curry gravy, topped with chips and crispy bacon. Perfection.
