Farm-to-table fare and excellent wine in the Swartland.
This Swartland wine farm just outside the country town of Malmesbury is a real diamond in the rough. Home to winemaker Adi Badenhorst and his extended family, it’s quirky, irreverent and a real delight. Don’t expect a traditional “restaurant” – this feels like dining with family in the best possible way. Farm lunches are on offer on Wednesdays and Thursdays, so book a wine tasting and settle in for the day. Adi’s brother Charl and his team produce tasty home-cooked fare using excellent quality meat and farm produce. Their famed pizza nights also take place on Thursdays and on the first Friday of (almost) every month, when live music adds to the party. Check their website and on social media for details – booking is essential. Charl produces authentic Italian pizza (using proper ingredients) in the shady courtyard and the estate’s award-winning wines are on offer, too. Limited accommodation in beautifully renovated farm buildings is available if you want to make a weekend of it.
