As you might expect from its name, The Station is located in Hermanus’s old station building. It’s headed up by chef Simon Watt-Pringle who has serious cooking credentials. After gaining experience at the La Colombe group of restaurants in Cape Town and the winelands, Simon set his sights on creating the best all-day café and deli in the Overberg region. If the reviews are anything to go by, he’s succeeding. The Station offers creative takes on café classics including flavour-packed breakfasts such as the Tokyo Benedict (a sushi rice rösti, grilled mushroom, two poached eggs, baby spinach, red onion, sweet soy Hollandaise and sesame furikake) and the Bishop’s Mum brunch bun – a potato bun, soft cream scrambled eggs, cream cheese, smoked trout and chives. Brunch options are followed by Neapolitan-style pizzas and larger plates such as Sichuan fried chicken or Wagyu steak and chips. It’s impossible not to find something you like here.
