This warm, welcoming bakery and café is just what you need when you’re on holiday in the seaside village of Hermanus (or if you’re a local, of course!). Chef and owner Ricky Broekhoven built his own woodfired pizza oven, and it forms the heart of his kitchen. He bakes fresh wood-fired bread and pastries daily, including legendary pasteis de nata and a ham-and-cheese croissant that people can’t get enough of, and serves breakfasts and light lunches. Ricky often hosts pizza nights, where his sourdough pizzas are snapped up as fast as he can bake them, and sunset sessions and wine-pairing dinners. For breakfast, expect the likes of eggs, smoothie and granola bowls, all made from scratch with locally sourced ingredients. Lunches offer salads, a cheeseburger sandwich with local Klein River cheese, as well as gnocchi with sauces that change often (both meaty and vegetarian). Toasties are available all day, as are slices of house-made sourdough with your choice of topping.
