If you’re in Howick – and you’re not a vegetarian – then Cure House is surely one of the places you build your weekend mornings around. What started as a family-run, specialty butchery with a focus on superb biltong and ethical farming has burgeoned into a busy restaurant with undeniable Midlands cool factor. The breakfast rolls (packed with dry-cured bacon, eggs and signature spicy mayo) are a local obsession, while the Ballie Burger (an aged-beef and pork patty with melted mozzarella, fried onion, lettuce and spicy mayo) will smash any hunger worked up by all that fresh, country air. Come autumn, you’ll also find locals flocking here for owner Steve Walters’ Friday potjie curry. Enjoy a good cup of coffee on the deck overlooking the lush, green valley, and your Cure House Midlands experience is complete. (Don’t worry, Durbanites, there’s also a branch in Hillcrest.)

Don't leave without trying:
Those bacon-and-eggs rolls (plus another one for in the car), or a taste of Steve’s unbelievable potjie curry if you visit in winter.
