Ubuciko Soul Food Cafe
Art, jazz, community and soul food. Is this Inanda's most welcoming hotspot?
Think of Ubuciko less as a standard restaurant and more like a neighbourhood institution with a kitchen attached to it. It feels something like visiting a very popular friend’s patio – all low lounge sets, cable-spool tables, friendly faces, and owner Nathi Khuzwayo making sure everyone’s having a good time. The menu is a lesson in generously portioned comfort food: burgers that need two hands, breakfast pizzas, wings-and-chips combos, and Durban specialties such as curry and kotas. Beyond the food, Ubuciko pulses with culture: there are rotating exhibitions from local artists, a book club, and regular jazz, R&B and deep house nights (they’ve even hosted the likes of multi-platinum group The Soil).
Don't leave without trying:
The Maputo-style slow-cooked fish, served with chips and pineapple salsa (only available on weekends). Or come hungry for the Ubuciko Soul Food Feast, a platter of pizza, tramezzini, wings, ribs and chips.
