Spice Restaurant
A beachfront deck and Indo-continental food worth the drive.
If the measure of a great restaurant is how willing its customers are to follow it across a city, then Spice is sitting pretty, its devoted regulars have grown in numbers from its first location on Florida Road, to Windermere, and then to Westbrook. What hasn’t changed is owners Russell and Linda Burger’s commitment to flavoursome Indo-continental fusion cuisine inspired by their travels. The kitchen, with Linda at the helm, sends out a smorgasbord of European classics with a twist, such as coriander-and-chilli fish cakes with basil pesto aïoli; chicken jalapeño linguine; prawn-stuffed Balti chicken; and a lamb curry that keeps people coming back. Every meal is accompanied by endless Indian Ocean views, particularly if you snag a spot on the large wooden deck in summer.
Don't leave without trying:
The standout curries or the prawn-stuffed Balti chicken: a tender breast rubbed in a cumin-and-garlic paste, stuffed with Cajun prawns and a mild curry cream, and served with basmati rice and tempura carrots.
