To say that this restaurant is iconic is no understatement. It’s the epitome of a neighbourhood gem and has been feeding Cape Town authentic, flavour-packed Portuguese food since 1988. Some of the staff have been there since its inception – it’s likely they’ll know your name if you’re a regular – and service is always friendly and efficient. The Dias (as it’s known) is enormously popular and often packed to the rafters, especially on weekends when there’s live music, or when there’s a big soccer game on the screens, so be sure to book! There are no frills here, but that’s what makes it, and the food speaks for itself. You’ll find all the classics on the menu: trinchado, peri-peri chicken, calamari, prawns, sardines, chicken or beef pregos, plus it’s easy on the pocket. It’s equally as good for a big party as it is for a quiet lunch on a Saturday afternoon. You’ll never leave here feeling unsatisfied.

Don't leave without trying:
The Joe’s special (calamari and beef trinchado) with chips, or peri-peri chicken with rice. Ask for it on a platter and share with a friend.
