Ferdinando’s Pizza
A neighbourhood favourite serving authentic (and alternative) pizza.
Started by Italian Diego and South African Kiki from their rented apartment in 2013, Ferdinando’s (which was named after their dog) found a home in Cape Town’s suburb of Observatory in 2015. The restaurant’s tagline – “Pizza is about love and you will love our pizza” – rings true if the enthusiastic reviews are anything to go by. It’s a friendly, welcoming place that’s perfect for a party, casual dinner or a quick stop for a takeaway. The pizzas are made with proper Italian flour, fresh tomatoes and toppings, and baked in a wood-fired oven in the traditional way. The classics are covered, as well as a good selection of “alternative” bases and toppings, including the Vegana (tomato base, sesame seeds, peppers, baby marrows, cherry tomatoes, aubergine, avocado and caramelised onion jam) and the Thai Green Mamba (coconut green curry base, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes and peppers) and dessert pizzas, topped with Nutella, strawberries, ricotta and nuts. To drink, there are cocktails, mocktails, beer, wine and soft drinks.
Don't leave without trying:
The complimentary breadsticks and garlic aÏoli, the Diavola pizza (topped with spicy Italian salami) and the tiramisu.
