Jamludi Eatery | The Kota Guy
A highly rated local eatery serving huge, flavourful kotas.
Meli Gingqini serves a slice of nostalgia wrapped in a warm, affordable kota – sometimes known as a bunny chow in other locations, but don’t call it that here! For those who grew up savouring this iconic street food, Meli’s creations are like little love letters to their roots. Driven by a dream to create a sustainable livelihood and a passion for feeding students on a budget, Meli has turned Jamludi Eatery into a haven for the homesick, the hungover and the hungry. He has named the kotas on the very compact menu after different cars – an inside joke between him and a friend. The Toyota is filled with chips, atchar, French polony and BBQ sauce, while the BMW is filled with chips, atchar, polony, cheese, a Russian, egg and his special secret sauce. The atchar comes all the way from Limpopo, so fans know they’re getting the real deal. They believe that all kotas should be accompanied by a Savanna or a Coke, and who are we to argue?
