Fresh Food With Thuladu
Traditional Durban comfort food with real heart.
Fresh Food With Thuladu is more than just a restaurant. It’s a story of resilience, and of the enduring power of good home cooking. After being retrenched in 2015, founder Thuladu Mngadi started selling home-cooked meals at Durban station. Fast-forward a decade or so, and she’s turned those humble beginnings into a full-fledged restaurant beloved for its comforting food, reasonable prices, and warm, homely atmosphere. Traditional South African cuisine is the hero here. Start your day off right with pap and wors, vetkoek and mince, or maybe the Station Special Breakfast (boerewors, scrambled eggs, grilled tomato, pap with butter, chakalaka and fresh bread), an homage to the meal that started it all. Of course, the mains menu is really where it’s at – think lamb trotter curry or a braai platter – or go all in over the weekend with Thuladu’s famous Sunday buffet.
Don't leave without trying:
Chef Thuladu's famous chicken curry, passed down through generations of her family: tender chicken in aromatic spices with the perfect balance of heat and flavour, and served with basmati rice and roti.
