Premium and always polished, Gemelli has spent the past decade setting the tone for contemporary Italian dining in Joburg. There’s not a checked red tablecloth or pizza oven in sight here. Instead, the space is all clean lines, warm timber and lighting installations – the kind of place where an important business lunch can transition seamlessly into an elegant dinner (not least because the dress code is strictly smart casual). The menu reflects that same refinement: beautifully plated pastas (which can be ordered in family size), premium cuts of meat, and dishes that prioritise seasonality alongside traditional Italian flavours. Gemelli’s charismatic founder, Alessandro Mosupi Khojane, is firmly hands-on, keeping the experience at the consistently high quality regulars have come to expect. If you fancy a more relaxed (though no less glamorous) evening, head to the adjoining Phirinyane Bar, where you can order from the Gemelli menu as you sip a cocktail and get the weekend started.
