Ukkō Restaurant
A Mediterr-Asian beauty with real warmth.
It’s not every restaurant that can make sophistication feel personal. Ukkō has all the polish and aesthetic sensibilities you’d expect from a Sandton gem, but with the warmth of a true neighbourhood favourite – the consistency, the attention to detail, the way the team treats every guest with genuine care. It’s a little unexpected, too: a Mediterranean tapas and sushi spot with an extensive wine list and mixology bar. Expect elegant small plates (such as crispy baby marrow ribbons with lemon aïoli), adventurous offerings from the Mediterr-Asian raw bar (rib-eye tataki, anyone?) and larger mains that keep to the Med theme, such as flame-grilled whole fish. Dishes are just on the right side of inventive, without tipping over into feeling contrived. What keeps people returning, though, is the feeling that the team at Ukkō very intentionally creates; not simply a restaurant, but a gathering place where memories and community take shape over truly excellent food.
Don't leave without trying:
The 700g aged Tomahawk steak – French-trimmed and chargrilled – as well as the flame-grilled whole fish.
