This popular, relaxed eatery on Cape Town’s trendy Kloof Street has been around for a few years, in one incarnation or another. It’s the kind of place where you know you’ll always be welcomed and get a good meal, the hallmark of a true neighbourhood gem. Judd’s is open for brunch until midday, and you can expect the likes of a breakfast burger, polenta and boerewors (their take on boerie and pap), as well as something a little different like toast and sardines. If you fancy dessert for breakfast, try the Basque cheesecake or the Belgian chocolate brownie. Lunch and dinner are equally tasty, with small sharing plates including corn riblets, fish cakes, squid and bobotie samoosas on offer, as well as larger plates of a tomahawk steak, kudu fillet, lamb riblets and fresh Saldanha mussels steamed in a spiced tomato-and-beer broth. Keep an eye on their social media for specials and the popular supper club evenings.

Don't leave without trying:
The lamb parcel – 24-hour braised and pulled lamb shoulder in phyllo pastry with tzatziki and a green salad.
