Chef Madre has been cooking up a storm for more than two decades and her namesake restaurant in Stanford, located in a charming cottage, has a loyal and devoted following of locals, as well as returning visitors. This is hearty country-style cooking with a very seasonal approach and the small blackboard menu changes often. But on it you might find tasty dishes such as a small plate with burrata, ruby grapefruit and lavender, or a more substantial meal of crispy pork belly with miso butternut and apple pickle. And dessert could be something delectable like a chocolate fondant with mint ice cream. Being close to the coast, Madre will always have a fresh fish of the day, cob perhaps, served with baby potatoes and a creamy lemon sauce. All this deliciousness is offset by a nice local wine list. It can get really full, so be sure to book ahead – but service is warm and attentive, so you’ll be in good hands.

Don't leave without trying:
