Mexicola Locale

It may look humble from the outside, but Mexicola Locale has quickly developed a reputation for delicious and interesting Mexican food in Hout Bay. The decor is colourful, the atmosphere is laid-back but lively, and it’s a great spot to bring the whole family – there’s a jungle gym for the kids, plus a solid kids’ menu. (And on Sundays, kids eat free!) The menu is concise but inventive: expect to dine on tasty dishes including el pastor tacos with braised pork shoulder, pineapple salsa, lime and coriander, or tuna tostadas – chipotle-cured tuna, agave, pickled red onion and coriander. The general consensus is that the food is super-fresh, brimming with flavour, and not too spicy. A few inventive vegetable-forward dishes will keep the vegetarians smiling. As befitting of a Mexican joint, there’s a fabulous range of tequila- and mescal-driven cocktails to choose from. Service comes highly recommended: staff are friendly, very hospitable and great at making recommendations. Good times, guaranteed.
