MG Canteen at Marrian George
A stylish hotel restaurant with delicious food and warm service.
If you haven’t heard of this restaurant before, it could be because it’s the in-house eatery of the very stylish Marrian George boutique hotel in the Swartland village of Koringberg. But here’s some good intel: the MG Canteen welcomes non-resident guests and boasts some of the most delicious dining in the area. Expect a seasonally driven menu that changes often, with eggs from the hotel’s own hens, butter made in town, and lots of veg from the on-site veggie gardens. The passion project of local winemaker Joanne Hurst, the restaurant is located in the former Wildehurst wine cellar. Expect treats including fresh kabeljou with seasonal veg and a lemon-and-caper sauce, and a salted chocolate caramel tart with mascarpone cream. Staff are well-trained and very welcoming, and it’s been noted that they try to accommodate dietary requirements where possible. You can look forward to true country-style hospitality.
