Mkhize’s isn’t just a beloved restaurant and bar, but a multifunctional community experience. This “official sunset spot” overlooking KwaMashu offers food, drinks and views, sure, but below it you’ll also find an affiliated butchery, hair salon, laundry, carwash and even a doctor’s office. One trip, errands done … time to treat yourself! The biggest draw, of course, is the shisa nyama – and the huge vibes. Meat comes straight off the coals to feed the devoted local crowd (or, as owner Nhlakanipho Mkhize dubs them, “our kings and queens”). The atmosphere is exactly what you'd hope for: loud, warm, communal and utterly alive. This is the kind of place that reminds you why food, culture and community are inseparable.

Don't leave without trying:
The crispy brisket or the spicy wors.
