Papino’s by Jolly Cook
Perfectly cooked steaks await at this popular Hout Bay eatery.
Papino’s claim to fame is that they make the best steak in Cape Town and, by all accounts, they seem to be knocking it out of the park in this department. The food here is honest and unpretentious and cooked with love and a lot of attention. Although they’re known for the steaks, it should be noted that the wood-fired pizzas are nothing to sneeze at, and the pastas are very hearty and satisfying. But back to the steaks: choose your cut, pick your sauce, and wait for perfection to arrive; the meat is always expertly cooked and bursting with flavour. We’re also hearing rave reports about the steak tartare on the starters menu, and both the Caprese and Caesar salads have their share of acolytes. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the service is hands-on and friendly. It can get very busy, so booking is recommended.
