You could do a LOT worse than sit down for a weekend brekkie at this fantastic bakery and café in the West Coast town of Yzerfontein. You might have to book ahead though, it’s extremely popular and you’ll often find a queue of people waiting to buy baked goods, plus family groups waiting to grab one of the bigger tables. The bread is amazing – proper leavened sourdough made with only the best local flours. The blackboard menu might offer scrambled eggs with dry-cured bacon and roasted cherry tomatoes on sourdough, and for lunch a very good toasted chicken-mayo sarmie. Do not leave here without a loaf to enjoy later. Come to think of it, you might want to add some preserves, local wines and coffee beans to your basket. And we haven’t even mentioned the sweet treats to go, which include a delicious pastel de nata. The vibe is lively, the decor is slightly industrial, and service is fast and friendly.
