It may come as a surprise to find a true “taste of Asia” in the quiet Overberg town of Betty’s Bay, but that’s exactly what you’ll find here. Headed by the very experienced Kurt (chef) and Andre (front of house), Waaygat is so popular that you’re advised to book. The small menu changes often but may hold treats such as beef tataki (seared beef fillet with lemon ponzu dressing and peppered yoghurt), duck meatballs with a pickled ginger-and-walnut salad, and tandoori-style lamb neck with miso-grilled butternut and grilled onion. A concise wine list with a distinct Overberg/Hemel-and-Aarde slant rounds out the offering. By all reports, service is exceptional and the food is both expertly cooked and beautifully presented. As you step into the space with its industrial chic vibes, you can look forward to a genuinely warm welcome.
