Abbiocco feels like the kind of place Ballito locals quietly hope visitors never discover. Part restaurant, part deli, it’s entirely rooted in slow, generous hospitality and passion for food. Meals are mostly served out on the convivial, rustic decks, which perfectly set the scene for a feast of Italian cooking blended with Greek and other Mediterranean influences. Antipasti platters arrive piled high, followed by heaving plates of mains – think pulled-lamb pappardelle or a spicy prawn and sugar-pea risotto. Meanwhile, meat turns slowly on a spit during long Sunday lunches, and glasses of wine seem to refill themselves as live music drifts through the space. There’s passion and history in every detail – such as the origanum grown from seeds brought back from Cyprus by the owner-chef’s father decades ago!

Don't leave without trying:
The antipasti platter, featuring melanzane, polenta fries, spicy prawn arancini, chicken liver pâté and other locally sourced, seasonal delights.
