This cute café has become the go-to spot for Cape Town’s cool kids who gather here to enjoy the extended toastie and “things on toast” menu, which ranges from classics such as chicken mayo to the “railway omelette sandwich” – masala omelette with onions, chilli, coriander, white Cheddar and tomato relish on toasted white bread. The “things on toast” includes the “spicy sardine snack”, sardines sautéed in olive oil on toasted sourdough, served with chilli, capers, parsley, tomato and lemon juice. There’s also an extensive breakfast menu that includes all the classics, as well as buns and benedicts, sandwiches, salads, soups and burgers and dogs. To drink, expect coffee, fresh juices and the “Mini Bar”, which is open until 10pm and offers beer, wine and classic cocktails. The vibe is friendly and welcoming, so pop in, order at the counter and settle into what feels like your friend’s kitchen. There’s also a separate co-working space if you need to check your email.
