Run by self-taught chefs and twin sisters Jesse and Jamie Friedberg, this casually elegant eatery can be found in a renovated heritage building at the top of Bree Street, the city’s favourite foodie location. Jesse and Jamie have been in the restaurant business for over a decade and know just how to capture the elusive ingredients of a space that makes you want to linger. The menu is concise and curated, much like the décor, flowers and beautiful ceramics in use. Start the day with breakfast of porridge (available three ways) or choose the Persian herb frittata with creamed salsa verde and house-smoked salmon or “cake for breakfast”; slip away from your desk for lunch of yellowfin tuna Niçoise or the famous chicken pie, or opt for an early dinner of seared beef fillet with watercress crème fraiche or handmade fresh pasta and a sauce of your choice, among many other delicious options. There are also beautiful bakes, a considered wine list, and great cocktails.
Don't leave without trying:
The meatballs al forno with rosemary mash and garden greens, or handmade linguine, and the pistachio loaf.
