Set right at the top of the Bo-Kaap, with 270-degree views of Table Mountain, the city and the harbour, The Dorp Hotel defies categorisation. Created by visionary Gail Behr, the hotel spills down the hill on multiple levels, with hidden nooks and gardens to explore. The restaurant serves comforting food in a sumptuously decorated space that feels like you’re dining in someone’s home, complete with a pink velvet sofa, a fireplace and well-thumbed books. If you’re not very hungry, the toasted sandwiches (available until 4pm), Caesar salad or potato latkes with smoked salmon and sour cream are a good bet, but if you’re after something more substantial, the chicken curry with turmeric rice and butter naan, fillet steak with Béarnaise sauce, or traditional lamb bobotie will definitely satisfy. For dessert, expect milk tart, malva pudding, cheesecake or vanilla ice cream with a chocolate Flake. They don’t have a liquor licence but are happy for you to bring your own drinks. Booking is essential.

Don't leave without trying:
The rotisserie chicken and twice-baked cheese soufflé.
