Plettenberg Bay is rightly known for its beautiful beaches and sea views, but don’t let that prevent you from venturing off the beaten track to this otherworldly riverfront location. Emily Moon River Lodge is situated on the Bitou River and is filled with eclectic treasures gathered by the Valentine family on their travels around the world. At the restaurant, the spirit of Africa lives in every nook and cranny, and is also reflected in the menu, in dishes such as Karoo lamb rack, home-made sweet potato gnocchi with halloumi and herbs, linefish, cider-braised pork belly, and more. There’s also an on-site garden that supplies the restaurant with much of its produce, with the balance being sourced from local organic farmers. Dinner by candlelight makes for a very romantic date night, while lunch overlooking the river and mountains in the distance will make you want to check into one of the suites to prolong the experience.
