The restaurant couple that is Neil and Tina Jewell have over the years left their (delicious) mark on the local dining scene and with Jewell’s on the Spice Route estate outside Paarl, they are cementing an excellent reputation. One of the reasons this farm-to-table eatery is so popular is that it’s suitable for so many occasions – family get-togethers, ladies lunching, business meetings – it all works. The menu is short but well-conceived. With Neil being a master of charcuterie, the charcuterie board is a no-brainer, but we’re also hearing good things about the home-smoked kingklip, as well as the cheese-and-onion risotto with Langbaken cheese. The side dishes are so interesting you might want to ask for a platter of everything … Service is friendly and welcoming and the decor is elegant without being stuffy. On days when the weather plays along, you could hardly ask for a better spot than a table outside.

Don't leave without trying:
The Karoo lamb shoulder with Asian BBQ glaze is a winner.
