Located in the heart of the winelands, The Wine Hive wine bar in Paarl really comes to the party with its offering: 250 local wines (and 70 Italian!) are at your disposal. And while the wine offering is stellar, we’re also hearing very good things about the food. It’s a smallish menu of pizzas and pastas done very, very well. The general consensus is that Michela Sfiligoi, the owner and chef, really knows what she’s doing and that the food is bursting with authentic Italian flavours. Highlights include the Diavola pizza with fior di latte, roasted red pepper, spicy salami and basil, and the prosciutto e fungi (Parma ham, mushrooms and basil). There are also some excellent platters for sharing, and the spinach-and-ricotta ravioli comes highly recommended. Service is excellent and very hospitable. The Hive is very popular over weekends, so be sure to book ahead.
Don't leave without trying:
The “super margherita” pizza with fior di latte mozzarella AND burrata, extra virgin olive oil and basil pesto.
