Chef Kayla-Ann Osborn has cooked at some of South Africa's most acclaimed tables – from landing the executive chef role at The Chefs’ Table in Umhlanga at just 23 (the only KZN restaurant in the Eat Out Top 20 that year) to a stint as executive chef at Delaire Graff in Stellenbosch – before returning to her South Coast roots to open this fine-dining restaurant at Umdoni Point. Each plate here is like a carefully composed story, with menus that shift regularly according to inspiration and seasonality. Given the location, seafood is a hallmark of Kayla-Ann’s tasting menus, with beautifully prepared meats and thoughtful wine pairings rounding out the experience. The result is a destination restaurant backed by the kind of culinary pedigree that makes the drive down the South Coast very easy to justify.

Don't leave without trying:
The smoked local mussels (with, unusually and excitingly, bacon tops and cream cheese), or the richly fragrant Durban crayfish curry.
