Loading Bay has been around since 2007, and many would consider it one of the first in Cape Town’s wave of cool cafés. Its focus has always been on serving ethically sourced, excellent quality food made with care and attention. Breakfasts range from simple eggs and sourdough to mushroom ragout on sourdough, topped with a poached egg, and the Green Goddess – two poached eggs on toasted sourdough with green veg sautéed in brown butter dressed with herby tahini, lemon zest and sesame seeds. There’s also the likes of seasonal bircher muesli and buttermilk pancakes. Larger plates offer beef, chicken and king oyster mushroom burgers, a steak plate, a classic croque monsieur and the catch of the day served en papillote. There are also delicious bakes and excellent coffee if you’re just popping in for a quick bite. Afterwards, browse the super-stylish men’s apparel on the mezzanine level, and Aesop body products on the top level.
