A good demonstration of the fact that big things can come in small packages: Yen’s Vietnamese Street Food is not a large space yet the flavours that come out of this kitchen are big, bold and bright. After honing her skills for years at the Oranjezicht City Farm Market, chef Yen has found a loyal following here. The menu is, as suited to a smallish space, concise and considered. Expect rolls (rice paper and spring), dim sum, pho, stir-fried noodles and a rice noodle salad briming with fresh, clean flavours. It’s become known for its banh mi (Vietnamese sandwich) – home-made baguette with a choice of pork belly, roast chicken or tofu, with mayo, pickled daikon and carrot, coriander and soy. The pork belly version often sells out, so get it while it’s hot. The drinks list offers a few wines and beers and, of course, traditional Vietnamese iced coffee. Service is good – staff are attentive and clearly care about the quality of the food.

Don't leave without trying:
