There’s something about a beautiful garden and fresh country air that makes you feel hungry. Midlands Fable is exactly that kind of place, a country restaurant serving down-to-earth, honest food that shines the spotlight on the produce grown in its gardens, and other ingredients sourced from local suppliers. Breakfasts are generous and brim with wholesome options including eggs done myriad ways (try the pancake Madame – garlic-infused spinach, smoked trout and poached eggs on a pancake with crème fraîche Hollandaise), sweet options such as coconut-and-pineapple eggy bread, plus muffins, croissants, granola and porridge. For lunch, green risotto, burgers, sandwiches, salads and more substantial meaty options such as cider-braised pork shoulder tempt, with plenty of options for vegans and vegetarians. There’s also The Taproom, which serves snacks, pizza and steaks, a lovely shop to browse, and space for the kids to play.

Don't leave without trying:
The five-spice Peking duck tacos.
