Tucked away in a coastal forest on KZN’s south coast, The Cellar at The Honeywood Forest Spa is a pleasant surprise. Chef Dylan Smith offers globally inspired à la carte and tasting menus for lunch and dinner on the covered verandah, and in the candlelit dining room at night. Guests can choose from a wide selection of tapas to share or to enjoy as a light meal, which range from a lime-and-chilli prawn poké bowl and peri-peri chicken livers, to dim sum and a beetroot-and-halloumi salad, with lots in between. Mains run the gamut of crispy Asian duck and Singapore prawns to chicken saltimbocca and a vegetarian korma. Some of the dishes can also be modified to suit vegetarians. If you can manage dessert, crème brûlée, the Cherry Pop (a warm, crisp cherry and vanilla cremeux spring roll with cherry broth, frozen yoghurt and lemon gel) and iced peanut coffee will finish things off on a high note. There’s also accommodation available if you want to make a weekend of it.
