If you’re a meat lover, this is the place for you. The Fat Butcher devotes its menu to all things carnivorous, with regulars praising its consistency and friendly service. The prime steaks on offer include rump, sirloin and fillet, as well as lesser-known côte de boeuf (a bone-in rib-eye) and New York cut (a boneless loin cut), which are perfect for sharing among friends. Choose your cut and add some sides; options include onion rings, a braaibroodjie, chips, mash or salad. Or go for the likes of the Grosvenor – fillet with foraged mushrooms, pickled mustard seeds, fynbos vinegar and black truffle oil – or the Drostdy, fillet basted with peri-peri chicken livers, topped with caramelised onion garlic sauce and a cured egg yolk. Other specialties include lamb’s tails, lamb shanks and pork belly, to name just a few. There is also some seafood, and vegetarians will enjoy a porcini mushroom risotto. A shop on the premises sells meat so you can try to recreate the experience at home.

Don't leave without trying:
The picanha steak, lamb ribs or large sharing cuts.
