Toevlug
A relaxed farm-style restaurant serving flavour-packed food.
As with any restaurant in chef Bertus Basson’s stable, there will be an element of Afrikaans nostalgia, and Toevlug (which means “sanctuary” in Afrikaans) at Annandale Wines is no exception. This farm-style restaurant may boast a relaxed atmosphere, but the cooking by chef Drikus Brink is precise and considered. The offering changes with the seasons, and you may find brekkie such as “boere” shakshuka or “plaatkoekies” (flapjacks) with grilled banana and cinnamon butter on the menu. Lunch could include a starter of garlic soup with lemon cream and salsa verde, with a main course of free-range rump with café de Paris butter (and all sorts of delicious sides) for sharing. It’s a family-friendly venue with tables outside, a great play area, and even a small petting zoo for the kids. The wine list offers a host of wines, in addition to well-priced Annandale bottles. It is, quite simply, the perfect spot for your next lazy day winelands lunch.
Don't leave without trying:
If there’s tuna for starters, go for it.
